Richard, a Harvard-trained management consultant, and Linda, a writer, musician, and teacher, didn't feel like any of the available approaches were right for their children.
What the Eyres wanted for their kids was the ability to be well-adjusted, confident, and happy when they started kindergarten.
The Eyres, delighted that so many other parents seemed to value the same things they did, continued their writing and continued to match it to the needs of their own growing children.

 Richard III Society--McKellen Interview
Richard Eyre, the director of the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain (RNT), had asked me to put together a company of actors, to present two plays which would together tour around the United Kingdom and Europe and, as it happened, the United States.
As we rehearsed Richard Eyre's production, he kept saying, "if we were doing this as a film, here would be a close-up."' The style of the lighting designed by Jean made it look very film noir and audiences admired its movie look -- a fl and white movie, it's true.
Richard Eyre could not consider directing it, because of his contractual obligations to the RNT.

For Stage Beauty, directed by Richard Eyre and adapted for the screen by Jeffrey Hatcher (from his own play), is as much of a calculated crowd-pleaser as the 1998 Elizabethan romantic comedy—but without any hint of the magic found in the earlier film.
Yet, apart from Richard Griffith’s appropriately slimy patron of the arts and Edward Fox’s excellent bit as Sir Edward Hyde (Fox, in fact, is so snottily good that he almost makes the cheap shot against the French funny), Crudup is by far the best element in the film.

But Sir Richard's peers were keen to point out that he had also enthused at length about much modern theatre and its ability to challenge and elate audiences.
