The son of a miller, Richard Harris was educated at the Sacred Heart Jesuit College, and later studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
To a great extent, Harris talked his songs in a manner similar to Harrison, but he also put a lot of an actor's performance into the material, so that one swore it was an attractive singing voice that one was hearing.
Harris was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in 2002 and died of that ailment the same year on October 25 at University College Hospital in London.

But Harris was best known to modern audiences for his portrayal of Dumbledore, the kindly and wily head of Hogwarts School in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (2001) and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," the latter due out November 15.
Richard Harris was born October 1, 1930, in Limerick, Ireland.

Born in Limerick, Ireland, Richard Harris excelled so well in rugby, it's said he is still remembered in Limerick City for his rugby tackling ability today.
Harris studied classical acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and made his stage debut in The Quare Fellow in 1957.
Harris further surprised his fans when he released a single of the epic called, "MacArthur Park." The song was an international hit and was the first long-play single to get airplay on AM radio, sparking something of a successful recording career for the actor.
