Richard ultimately was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 8½ to 25 years in prison, the maximum sentence for that crime but far less than he would have gotten for 2
Richard had an extremely competent defense attorney, Jack Litmann, who persuaded the jury that he was also a victim and that Bonnie’s rejection of him coupled with his disadvantaged background and feelings of inadequacy constituted “extreme emotional duress.” Richard began to believe it himself.
Richard Herrin needs to come to a point of accountability, or the next woman who rejects him may become another victim of his violence.

Herrin says that in the initial phase of the project, the implementation team spent a good deal of time working with the caretakers of these other systems to ensure that data were up-to-date and would remain so moving forward.
The effort was worth it, Herrin says, because ultimately the forecasting system is providing a central point where anyone in the company can see all the information that they need to do their job.
Despite the challenges, Herrin says that the forecasting initiative appears to be paying off already in that, combined with other project initiatives, the company has been able to achieve inventory reduction targets and has focused attention on tracking and reducing top-line and product mix forecast error.

Against Retribution by Thomas W. Clark
Moore brings up the case of Richard Herrin, a Yale student from the barrios of East Los Angeles who killed his college girlfriend.
Although Moore acknowledges that "we certainly have never been subject to the exact same stresses and motivations as Richard Herrin" he claims that "Herrin had no excuse the rest of us could not come up with in terms of various causes for our choices" (149).
But without saying that Herrin should have been excused for the murder, it’s still true that the "various causes" of his choices may have been quite different from the causes that shape the choices of those not subject to the stresses of the barrio.

With that broad mandate, Herrin and his team surveyed the market for collaborative forecasting engines and eventually settled on a solution from Chicago-based John Galt Solutions, a privately held company that the Syngenta group had met at a conference of the Institute of Business Forecasting.
Over time Herrin's team also has had to take into account changes in business units or in the sales force's structure, requiring that they readjust the process or forecasting tool to keep up with the changes.
Looking down the road, Herrin says that the company is exploring using the new process and Galt's Collaborator solution to support the entire S&OP process as a sort of executive information system, to give the participants in the S&OP meeting all the data they need when they need it.

Herrin was eventually convicted of manslaughter, rather than first degree murder.
Critics charge that the reduced sentence was the result of the Yale community and the Catholic church uniting to support Herrin by portraying him as the victim of his upbringing in a minority neighborhood barrio in Los Angeles.

Entertaining him at her parents' house in Westchester County, Bonnie gently told Richard that she didn't want to date him exclusively, and then she went to sleep, expecting that he would join her.
After pulling the hammer out of Bonnie's head, Herrin drove aimlessly, examining his conscience, deciding whether he wanted himself to die (he decided, without much struggle, that he didn't), and finally at daybreak surrendered to a priest called Father Tartaglia at an upstate church.
The Clintons, with their cult of FOBs and FOHs, the loving community who supported Richard Herrin at Yale while regarding Bonnie's grieving, angry parents with distaste-these represent friendship's descent into tribalism, superstition, vendetta and revenge.
