A Getty family trust has sold The Oldie, the irreverent magazine founded and edited by Richard Ingrams, to three investors led by James Pembroke, its former business manager who resurrected the magazine as a monthly after it was temporarily closed in 1994.
The Oldie was founded by Richard Ingrams, in 1992, as an antidote to an anodyne press obsessed with the non-achievements and non-sayings of "yoof." The magazine boasts some of the UK's best writers (including Ned Sherrin, Miles Kington, Beryl Bainbridge and Rosie Boycott), all of whom delight in this platform of non-conformity.
Richard Beatty will be directing the magazine's ad sales team whereas David will just be happy to attend the magazine's literary lunches, at Simpson's.
