Richard Kelliher was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Richard Kelliher was working for his eldest brother in Tralee as a mechanic when in 1929 as a seventeen-year-old he migrated with his 15-year-old sister Norah to Brisbane, Australia.
Kelliher is the only person who really knows if his actions were an attempt to erase the stigma of the charge of cowardice, or the reflex actions of a well-trained soldier who saw a mate (Richards) in trouble.

Brookline Town Administrator Richard Kelliher is the new president of the MMA Board of Directors, and Northampton Mayor Mary Clare Higgins is the new vice president.
He is a former associate director of the MMA and was the assistant to the deputy mayor in Boston.

Kelliher was returned to Ravenshoe, Queensland, on 19 January 1943.On March 27 1943 at a District Court Martial held at Ravenshoe, Kelliher was found guilty of misbehaving before the enemy in such a manner as to show cowardice, and sentenced to 12 months detention.

In 1966, Kelliher's VC was bought at auction for $2,000 and donated to the Australian War Memorial where it is on display.

Reg Rattey VC., and Richard Kelliher VC., remained in London, where on July 9 1946, at Buckingham Palace, King George V1., invested them with their Victoria Cross’s.
The investiture of their Victoria Cross’s by the King had been initiated by Kelliher in 1944, when he had been invited to Admiralty House, Sydney, to be invested with his Victoria Cross by Lord Gowrie, (later the Earl of Gowrie).
Kelliher declined the invitation to attend the Admiralty House ceremony stating that as a VC it was his right to have his medal personally presented to him by King George V1.
