Richard was first elected as a North East MSP in 1999, and then again in 2003 after halving the Labour majority in Aberdeen Central.
Richard is the SNP spokesman on Environment, Energy, Rural Affairs and Fishing.
Richard was born in Paisley in 1969 and was educated at Williamwood High School, Clarkston, Glasgow.

NORTH East MSP Richard Lochhead has given a cautious welcome to news of a reduction in waiting times for breast cancer treatment in the north east.
Mr Lochhead met with Richard Carey, chief operating officer of NHS Grampian, after recent reports showed that women in the north east were having to wait as long as 18 weeks from an appointment with their GP to treatment.
Mr Lochhead was informed that the waiting time for the two stages is five weeks each at present.
