Richard Harries has been Bishop of Oxford since 1987.  Before that he was Dean of King's College, London.  He has been a parish priest and a lecturer in Christian Doctrine and Ethics.
The Bishop is a regular broadcaster on radio and television and is well known for his contributions to “Thought for the Day” in Radio 4’s TODAY Programme.  Three books of his radio talks have been published, most recently In the Gladness of Today (Harper Collins).
Bishop Richard is married to Jo, a doctor.  They have two children, one a doctor and the other a lecturer in psychology.

In March of this year, I wrote what I thought was a spoof on the "Single European Tank", venturing that the EU had finally found a means of abolishing war through applying such rigorous health and safety requirements to military equipment that it would no longer be possible to operate it.
Then there is the question of broadcasting to Belarus, as reported by Vladimir Socor a fortnight ago.
Second, broadcasting to Belarus in Russian is at least "doing something," and thus better than the alternative option of "doing nothing." And, third, "it is stupid to say that Russian is bad and Belarusian is good," the chief is cited as arguing (Belapan,August 8).

For a 1935 broadcast from London that was meant to simulate a Broadway opening night, he needed a phonograph record of Ethel Merman singing “You’re the Top.” A friend sent him to the apartment of an American who would have the record.

She is expected to announce this decision at a press conference this afternoon after Broadcasting Minister Marian Hobbs and Finance Minister Michael Cullen meet the Board today.

Then, Civil War re-enactors from the 14th Brooklyn, Companies E and H, the 52nd New York Volunteers, and the 119th New York Volunteers, marched to the front of the monument to the cadence of the 119th’s Fife and Drum Corps.
