We do not know where Richard Miller and his wife Grace were born (one source states that all the early Millers in this country came from England, Scotland, or Ireland), but we do know that Richard was born circa 1649 and died probably in Kittery, Maine, 8 October 1692.
In July 1669, Richard was involved somehow in a court case with Katherine and Mary Green and Katherine Tobey when the trio was ordered to pay him 3s.
In September 1672, his wife Grace had him bound for good behavior and proper maintenance (she was pregnant at the time), the court warning her to be more careful of appearances and to attend to her family.

Born in Melbourne in 1948, Richard began percussion and timpani studies at the Sydney Conservatorium, with the Sydney Symphony's timpanist, Alard Maling.
Richard then became a percussion teacher at the Sydney Conservatorium, where he has taught a new generation of young percussionists, including Rebecca Lagos, Alison Eddington (winner of the ABC's Young Performers Awards in 1995), Brian Nixon, Tim White (principal percussionist with the West Australian Symphony) and David Montgomery (principal percussionist with the Queensland Symphony).
Since becoming the Sydney Symphony's principal timpanist in 1986, Richard has performed with almost all the major performance ensembles in Sydney.
