Richard Roeper (born August 1, 1960) is a columnist/film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times and, since September of 2000, has co-hosted Ebert and Roeper with fellow film critic Roger Ebert.
Ebert and Roeper premiered in 2000 and immediately enhanced Roeper's importance as a film critic, although, as a humorous news columnist, he has been criticized as lacking Ebert's reputation and skill.
Roeper has stated that the first two The Godfather movies are his favorite films, [3] and True Romance is his third favorite film.

Ebert and Roeper (formerly Siskel and Ebert) is a popular movie-reviewing television program starring film critics Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper, both of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Before Roeper was added to the show, the series (in its various incarnatations) was nominated for a primetime Emmy Award seven times, for Outstanding Information Series, most recently in 1997.
Roeper has commented that too many films (eleven in 2006 by April, compared to two by that date in 2005) are being withheld from critics.

Richard Roeper is an idiot, and I have the proof.

 CNNfyi.com - Chicago newspaper columnist takes Siskel's seat - November 30, 2000
The nonanimated, affable Richard Roeper, 40, was picked to join Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert on the newly christened "Ebert & Roeper and the Movies." Roeper takes the seat once filled by Chicago Tribune film critic Gene Siskel, half of the famed "Siskel & Ebert" team, who died 18 months ago.
Roeper has been a columnist at Sun-Times since 1987, and has appeared on a number of local and national radio and TV programs.
Roeper is "smart, confident and itching to dole out the occasional zing," Michael Speier wrote recently in the trade publication Variety.

Ebert & Roeper   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Roeper has just the right amount of sarcasm and wit to interplay with Ebert to allow the show to carry on in the tradition of the "battling reviewers" that Siskel and Ebert once were.
But the only things Roeper could come up with was that he thought the idea of Hobbits running around after a "silly" ring was stupid, he couldn't keep up with all the characters, and he thought it shouldn't have been left open at the end.
When Richard Roeper announced that his one Oscar wish for 2002 was that the Fellowship of the Ring be "shutout at the Oscars." Just because Roeper made a monumental rookie goof in giving this fine movie "thumbs-down" he now sticks that thumb in his mouth and hopes the Academy will make him look good.

Richard Roeper is Roger Ebert’s not-so-new-anymore partner and one of America’s most influential film critics.
With his newfound television fame, readers should not be surprised that Roeper has already cashed in with a book that combines his film knowledge with the short attention span generated by news channel tickers, MTV jump-cut videos and USA Today.
Had Roeper shied away from making lists and written a short book with research, more detailed anecdotes and some context, the funniest and most interesting parts of the books could have been salvaged but placed in a more informative setting.

Roeper is a terrible writer and perhaps the worst film critic on the planet.
Roeper is absolutely NOT as qualified as Siskel or Ebert were in their early days--when it comes to knowledge of, and passion for film.
I'm not arguing that Roeper is anywhere near the critic that Siskel and Ebert were in their prime, but you can't argue with the fact that he's filled a role that wasn't filled by the 30 or so critics that sat in before him, including Poland who quite frankly was boring...

Richard Roeper:  10 Sure Signs a Movie Character Is Doomed
Richard Roeper has taken the reputation he has garnered as Gene Siskel's replacement as Roger Ebert's sidekick on "Ebert and Roeper" and turned it into several books about film, the most recent being 10 Sure Signs a Movie Character Is Doomed.
The "Meg Ryan's Movie Names" list is included to specifically prove a point, which is easy since Roeper failed to include names that didn't match his agenda, and so Ryan's roles as Eve in "Hanging Up," Sally in "When Harry Met Sally," and Lisa in "Amityville 3-D," for example are not included.
The chronological range that Roeper has elected to focus on also appears limited, with the majority of the films named being released in the last fifteen years or so.
