Soviet Tactical Aviation in the Postwar Period   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Others, most notably the late Richard Simpkin, have seen these developments as a "search for simultaneity throughout the depth of the defense" in which the Soviets are banking heavily upon air mobile, mechanized forces to support their mobile groups in high speed, offensive operations.
Simpkin expressly linked this approach to new potentialities that were emerging as a result of development in helicopter aviation, which he termed as nothing less than a rotary revolution as profound in its implications as that associated with the mechanization of warfare in the 1930s.
Simpkin saw this search for simultaneity as ongoing and unrealized but thoroughly in keeping with Soviet operational art as it was developed in the 1920s and 1930s by Marshal M. Tukhachevsky and his colleagues.

One exception is Richard E. Simpkin's Race to the Swift.
Our emphasis is on the issue of air to defend against air because experience to date has shown that ground-based defenses, whether antiaircraft artillery or guided missile systems, have not been able to provide effective opposition to an air offense.
The Israeli attack on Arab air in the June 1967 war is perhaps the only example of a single battle on a single day winning theater air superiority.

Richard Simpkin has donated the dive computer on permanent loan until Steve's return and Steve was so relived it was clearly recognisable in his voice when he phoned a while ago.
He is grateful to Richard and the people that have donated so far.
Many thanks to everyone for what they have been doing so far, he was really tired and a little confused as he was worried about the dive computer but now relieved.

British Brigadier Richard E. Simpkin, the author of a number of works on armor warfare, has coined the term "airmechanized," and he states, "Use of helicopters in independent operations within the main mechanized battle-hence the term 'Airmechanized.'" (4)
He goes on to explain that the term "Airmechanization'" signifies the intimate cooperation of armor and helicopters at tactical and lower operational levels, with the possibility of pure helicopter missions at a tactical level.
Simpkin would combine a large attack helicopter element with a heavy mechanized element in one division.

Simpkin assumed that movement would be “disclosed” when opposing forces crossed a frontier or seacoast.
For a truly comprehensive treatment of movement’s ability to create surprise, Simpkin should have also addressed the ability of commanders who do not possess exclusive use of the airspace to degrade or even defeat an opposing force’s ability to collect and produce reliable information through the use of concealment and deception measures.
For example, commanders have learned through experience that when they do not possess complete control of the air, moving their forces at night or in bad weather is one of the most effective methods for denying an opposing commander the ability to collect and produce reliable information.

Ultimately, though, these all serve as supporting evidence for his core argument: that the current heavy mechanized divisions of today are too slow in light of the incredible increase in available firepower on the modern battlefield.
Also very interesting is Simpkin's exploration of the legal language necessary to maintain the integrity of our western values in our post September 11th world.
If we were to read Simpkin's book and allow ourselves to be re-inspired perhaps we could once again lead the way with conceptual greatness again in America.

In August 1919 Mr Ramsay resigned and British Anzani was reformed as a limited company under the joint control of Mr R.H. Simpkin (also general manager of the British Caudron factory at Cricklewood, north London) and Hubert Hagens.
In recognition of this order AC Cars were given 2000 shares in Anzani and John Weller and fellow AC director Selwyn Francis Edge took up their places on the British Anzani board of directors.
Other events were taking place though and in 1923 Gustave Maclure resigned from British Anzani to set up his own company (with fellow Anzani director Richard Simpkin) just around the corner from his old employer in Willesden.

 * Official MICHAEL HUTCHENCE fanclub *
I have chosen Richard Simpkin’s story as the first story for this Section as he spent many hours (sometimes waiting 15hours per day ….five days a week …) pursuing Michael and the band, so his dedication speaks for itself.
Richard has only spoken very briefly of his funny and interesting stories with Michael, hopefully after reading this, and other "real life "stories from many friends of Michael scheduled to be posted here, people will gain a better understanding of "the real Michael Hutchence".
I first met Michael Hutchence in 1989, at the Sydney Opera House where INXS were rehearsing for their upcoming album "X" and from this time on, I became a full time fan.
