Topic: Richard Wright (musician)

  Books | The Island affair
Ellen Wright did not say so outright, but I left with the impression that the presence in Island of Hallucination of a character based on one member of the Café Tournon circle in particular, an African-American writer and journalist called Richard Gibson, was largely behind her decision to withhold the novel.
Wright's stories were translated by the mischievous writer and musician Boris Vian, and Native Son formed the basis of a scandalous policier, I Will Spit on Your Graves, written by Vian under the guise of being a fl American.
Wright had always been a writer with a preference for the broad brush, but his early books emerged from a conviction that he was in possession of an original subject matter: the fiery passage of the "fl boy", striving to become a man in a society bent on suppressing his masculinity.

Richard Wright (musician) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Richard William "Rick" Wright (born July 28, 1943 in Hatch End Pinner, London, England) is a self-taught pianist and keyboard player best known for his long career with Pink Floyd.
Wright's compositions are in sharp contrast to the simple harmonic structures of the more blues and folk-based songs of Roger Waters and David Gilmour.
In the early days of the band, Wright dabbled with brass and string instruments before settling on the Farfisa organ as his main instrument onstage (in addition to piano and Hammond Organ in the studio).

Wright was the first bestselling fl writer; he was the first fl man to buy a house in Greenwich Village; he was the first African-American writer to leave for Paris after W.W. II.; he was the first fl American writer to star in a movie based on his own novel.

I'm not going to rest my case on the fact that they are both fl men, appealing to the "common suffering of all fls" as the only source of their artistic endeavors, influences and inspirations; something I've tried to establish as a misleading claim.
Another musician who was never satisfied with his music, who was always experimenting, growing, redefining himself, redrawing the boundaries of his instrument and moving the music beyond anything that had come before was John Coltrane.
Every musician practices technique and scales, but very few are obsessed with the basics of sound in the way Coltrane was.
