Richmond County is a county in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia.
Richmond County comprises that territory known as the Southern District which was established in 1824 at the time of the dividing of Cape Breton Island into three districts.
Named in honour of Sir Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond and Lennox, who was Governor General of British North America 1818-1819, Richmond County was created in 1835.

The first English settlement in Pictou County was by the Philadelphia Company in 1767 when they sent thirty-five people, six families of Scottish and Irish-Scottish origin on the ship Betsey from Philadelphia and Maryland to settle on their land in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
Several ROSE families settled other areas of Nova Scotia in the early part of the 19th century.
The second wave came from Scotland to Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1773 when the Hector arrived to a heavily forested and unsettled land.
