Richmond City Council Resolution 99-01 ³Supporting Evaluation and Development of a Recreational and Open Space Project on the Western Side of the San Pablo Peninsula² led to a $210,000 open space study which is now underway.
Recreation Lands North of Point Molate: Most of the City of Richmond and CTX lands north of Point Molate around Point San Pablo to the Point San Pablo Yacht Harbor are designated as recreation lands in both Richmond¹s General Plan and BCDC¹s Bay Plan.
One other item scheduled for action was pulled off the agenda, a proposed council censure of one of their members, Tom Butt, for his outspoken e-mail criticism of the city attorney staff members and of lunchtime spending habits of the city Human Resources director.

After 60 years, Atchison Village in Richmond, California, continues to be a unique living laboratory for housing policy, planning, urban design - and historic preservation.
The Richmond Housing Authority was the first housing authority in the country to manage a defense housing project built under the Lanham Act of 1940, and Atchison Village was the first project of the fledgling Richmond Housing Authority.

Chevron made an 11th-hour bid to stop a Las Vegas-style Indian casino from being built next to its Richmond refinery, offering to buy the land at Point Molate from the city for $34 million.
Although presentations of the Upstream proposal have been made to a number of organizations and to the City Council over the last couple months, the agreement with actual details about the proposal remains under wraps and is still in the drafting stage.

The California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal-EPA) announced late last week that it has agreed — after demands by Richmond City Council member Gayle McLaughlin and area progressives — to give DTSC chief oversight at the University of California, Berkeley's Richmond Field Station and adjacent Zeneca/Cherokee-Simeon Campus Bay.
It is an incredible example of how a community rallying in its own interest can accomplish a better and healthier Richmond," said McLaughlin, who carried the unanimous resolution by the Richmond City Council calling on Cal-EPA to act more rigorously in correcting problems in the area.
McLaughlin worked with Bay Area Residents for Responsible Development (BARRD), West County Toxics Coalition and the Richmond Progressive Alliance, which helped elect McLaughlin to the Richmond City Council last November.
