Port of Richmond officials yesterday approved a plan to handle up to a million tons of trash per year from New York bound for Virginia landfills.
It also could raise eyebrows in an area that increasingly is home to waste from other states, and port officials were eager to head off negative reactions.
Trash hauling could bring in $500,000 to $1 million in annual revenue for the port, which in its last fiscal year had operating revenue of $1.29 million, officials said.
