Overall, Astley would give the British Invasion one last push in the U.S. Being that Astley's sound and style was a bit like a fish out of water back in 1988, it's no surprise that his burst on the music scene would be short-lived.
Astley sounds completely different, but to me it was no surprise Astley was able to pull this off.
Unfortunately at the time of release, Rick Astley was tagged as a mimed singer, due to the attachment to Stock Aiken and Waterman.

Rick Astley was born on February 6, 1966 in the North of England and was brought up in a small coal-mining town called Newton-Le-Willows.
Rick's main role was that of Tape-Op but his genuine interest in the studio meant that Rick got involved whenever he could and learnt to record and produce music from some of the World's best.
Rick silenced his critics with "Cry For Help" becoming yet another Top 10 record that placed him in the Guinness Book of Records becoming the first male solo artist to have his first 8 singles reach the Top 10 in the UK, an achievement which has still to be beaten.

Rick Astley currently resides in Richmond in Surrey with his Danish wife, Lene Bausager, with whom he has a daughter, Emilie.
Rick Astley is listed as one of the back-up vocalists in Disney's The Lion King soundtrack, in the songs "Circle of Life", "I Just Can't Wait to be King", and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight (End Title)".

It was inspired by a woman Pete Waterman had been seeing for 3 years.
Rick Astley was staying with Waterman at the time, and after a 3-hour phone call with the woman, Astley said, "You're never gonna give her up." Aitken and Waterman then changed the story a bit and made him the one who was vulnerable.
Rick Astley worked as a tape operator in Stock, Aitken and Waterman's studio for 2 years, singing on recordings for other singers, learning the trade and famously making the tea, before the production trio wrote and produced this song for him, which became Astley's first hit.
