Rick Derringer - Music Downloads - Online
Derringer began getting production experience with the McCoys, but they were never able to overcome their bubblegum rock image, and by the end of the 1960s, Derringer and his brother Randy were recruited by Johnny Winter into his band, with Derringer playing guitar and also producing.
Derringer soon had his own band, called Derringer, on the road -- although his guitarist and bassist, Danny Johnson and Kenny Aaronson, left in 1977 to form Axis -- and within a couple of years had established himself as a popular favorite.
Derringer's recorded history was somewhat spotty, however, as his record sales never matched his favor with concert audiences -- a huge gap also existed between releases, which didn't bother him; even in the late '90s, Derringer played close to 200 shows a year.

Rick Derringer follows up his excellent 1996 release, Tend the Fire with another blues-rock CD.
Blues Deluxe is Rick's most focused blues CD so far, and he continues with a relative subtlety he began with Tend the Fire.
However, a subtle Rick Derringer is still a pretty intense experience, so it'd be best to strap in before spinning this one.

 Rick Derringer - All-American Boy
Shortly Rick was functioning as house producer for the Paul organization, learning his way around the studio and ultimately reaping the benefits when Edgar's "Frankenstein" rolled over the charts last summer to the tune of a variety of RIAA precious metals.
In some ways this is a disadvantage, for in an attempt to cover all bases, Rick sometimes seems like he has yet to settle on a recorded personality, or to consolidate his talent in as direct a manner as possible.
The album occasionally seems a trifle self-conscious, and just a shade too well thought-out; though in the undeniable professionalism and tight control Derringer exhibits over his finished product (not to mention the zest and two-fisted attack he grants his own material) such minor details are quickly shotgunned away.

Maybe Rick Derringer has but one solo hit to his credit — 1974's classic-rock staple “Rock 'n' Roll Hoochie Koo” — but in the years that followed Derringer became one of rock's craftiest session artists and doubled as a hit producer for the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Meat Loaf, and a host of others.
Born Rick Zehringer in 1947, Derringer began making his living in the music business while still a teen when he formed the McCoys (named for a Ventures instrumental) with drumming brother Randy in 1962.
Derringer's next move put him in the company of rock's albino dynamos, brothers Johnny and Edgar Winter, for whom he produced a handful of efforts including the latter's 1973 Gold disc They Only Come Out at Night (featuring pop nuggets “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride”).
