When he was three, Mayall and his parents - both of whom taught drama - moved to Redditch, Worcestershire, where he spent the rest of his childhood and performed in his parents' plays.
In 1986, Mayall achieved a #1 hit in the UK singles charts when he and his co-stars from The Young Ones teamed up with Cliff Richard to record a new (and somewhat offbeat) version of Living Doll for the inaugural Comic Relief campaign.
Mayall has also played the role of Professor Adonis Cnut in the sitcom Believe Nothing and was Peeves the poltergeist in the first Harry Potter movie (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) but was cut out of the final edit.

Rick constantly looks for acceptance while Neil only wants to be noticed so badly that his desperation often has him contemplating suicide.
Things get twisted when Rick's Teddy Bear's are caught in the act and Neil falls out the window after his bath.
Trying to get everyone to take notice, Rick learns once again how unimportant he is. Add an appearance by the Easter Bunny, in June, and the rest of the guys just don't know how to act around the girl.

Rick was the self-styled "People's Poet", and constantly had delusions of grandeur about his left wing, anti-police, "for the kids" poems.
Despite his bravado, Rick never "did it" with a girl, a fact that Vyvyen exploited at every opportunity, even to the point of demanding money from Rick and making him wear a cardboard sign round his neck with the word "virgin" crayoned onto it.
Exploding sticks of dynamite tied to his head to cure a hangover and clubbing Neil and Rick around the head with a cricket bat were all in a days work for Vyvyen, though Mike was never the butt of any of his violent outbursts.

Rick never lets an episode go without commenting on some aspect of current life in Thatcher's Britain, how he'd fix it, or, tear it down.
Rick is a snotty little revolutionist that is quite fond of himself, but no one else is. And Mike completes the 4 housemates as a confident ladys man (in his own mind)who is the brains of the house hold.
When Rick is having a conversation with the Christian in the hall in "Interesting", a member of the crew can clearly be seen walking at the top of the stairs behind her.

Starring Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Nigal Planner, Christopher Ryan and occasionally Alexei Sayle as the four students and landlord in 1980's Britain which in my view they symbolise very well as typical teenagers of that time.
It's weird, that Vyvyan is always on about how Rick is annoying, and how Rick snorts at Vyvyan, loving himself and he's "girl bait", and Neil has always got something to tell them, and Mike is just cool.
