The town of Rickmansworth is in the centre of its parish, and is set in a network of water, formed by these curving streams and their many tributaries, which flow under bridges or cross the open road.
 Rickmansworth became a market town by a charter of Henry VIII in 1542, whereby the bailiffs and inhabitants were licensed to hold a market on Saturdays and a fair on the feast of the Assumption.

The Manor of Rickmansworth, was originally said to be granted to the Abbey of St. Albans by Offa (757-96) and was confirmed to the Abbey and convent by King John.
In 1278 it was considered that Rickmansworth was ancient demesne of the Crown and had been from time immemorial and in possession of the abbotts of St. Albans before the Conquest of England.
Consequently, the Whitfield estate became sub-divided into separate properties where formerly it had consisted of nine messuages and 950 acres of land; that is to say: the Lordship of the Manor of Rickmansworth, the ownership of the Bury and the lands disposed of in 1815.

Notes: The Watford and Rickmansworth Railway Company was incorporated on July 3, 1860, to build a railway from Watford Junction to Rickmansworth, a distance of four-and-a-half miles.
Cost-cutting forced a simplification of the proposals and a new branch to Croxley Green was built with a triangular junction allowing both Croxley and Rickmansworth to have a direct service to London.
Rickmansworth station was renamed Rickmansworth Church Street on September 25, 1950 but 18 months later the branch closed to passenger traffic on March 3rd 1952; now that nationalisation brought lines into common ownership, it duplicated the Metropolitan Line without good reason.

Steeped in history, immaculately kept and with dramatic views over Rickmansworth and Moor Park Mansion, Tricky Ricky as it is known by golfers for good reason, is an 18 hole Par 65 course which tests golfers from the first tee to last green.
