Rico Dredd is a (An imaginary person represented in a work of fiction (play or film or story)) fictional character who has appeared in the (A professional performer who tells jokes and performs comical acts) comics in 2000 AD magazine, notably in "The Return of Rico" (in 2000 AD #30, 1977).
Of the two brothers, Rico demonstrated the higher levels of skill and achievement, but his bright career was cut short when he was found to be engaging in criminal activities on the side.
Rico was used as a villain in the Judge Dredd movie, in which Joe was played by (additional info and facts about Sylvester Stallone) Sylvester Stallone and Rico by (additional info and facts about Armand Assante) Armand Assante.

Dredd was the leader of the rebel Judges who overthrew Cal; after Cal's death at the hands of Fergee, a dweller of the Mega-City's undercity, he was offered the job of Chief Judge but refused it, as he believed he was needed far more out on the streets.

Dredd and Rico head after the perps, as Giant realises that Rico is being groomed to replace Dredd, and muses over rumours that about 6 more Dredd clones were in the academy.
Rico's character development took place in my "wilderness" years, although the links with the 6 clones live on in a Ron Smith flashback style, and this story is obviously a lead-in to a lengthier tale in which he plays a bigger part.
Dredd is concerned that the church was allowed to continue, and prepares a judicial force to shut it down.

Dredd is a "Judge", which is apparently a futuristic policeman who can act as judge, jury, and executioner for any criminal he apprehends.
Dredd gets sent to prison, but on the way, the plane crashes, and Dredd and his new sidekick, a hacker played by Roc Schneider, end up taken prisoner by some cannibals.
Dredd has a relationship with a fellow Judge named Hershey (Diane Lane) that develops throughtout the film, but it's so heavy handed and cliched that you would have to suspend your disbelief with the aid of drugs before you'd buy it, I think.

Dredd's goose is cooked when DNA evidence of the bullets found in the body provides seemingly irrefutable proof of his guilt.
Rico's really the main villain here, and while the 'psycho' aspect of his persona is adequate the more intelligent scheming side is under-exposed, which is a great pity.

Firstly, Dredd is arguably the greatest selling point of 2000AD, and having 3 of him in action poses on the cover certainly helps to generate interest.
Dredd says there are to be no prisoners and to shoot to kill.
Narrowly avoiding another smart missile, he helps Dredd and Rico defeat the remaining citi def holed out throughout the building, realising that he was made for the job - and indeed that he now wants it.

Rico was eventually killed by Joseph after a long saga, (which you will have to read about to find out more).
The actual age of Dredd is debatable but, he is still able to fight anything and due to his judge "conditioning" has saved the human race, many times over.
There is also no mercy from Dredd, and his reputation always proceeds him, those foolish enough to challenge him always come off second best or "one for the meat wagon".

Setting: Ignoring a movie that should never have been made, Judge Dredd is set in the far future, where crime rages almost out of control in a horribly overcrowded world.
Game Play: I'd like to say, right now, that Dredd is probably the smoothest CCG I've seen in at least a year.
There are also ways to be ruled out of the game (losing all of your judges, drawing out your deck, etc) and more than one way to win (one of which involves capturing four specific, evil, bad, nasty, villains) which will prove to spice up the game if you tune your decks towards them.

Dredd is one of my all time favourite comics and I didn't want to see it ruined by a bad film.
I can understand that the film makers wanted Rico as the villain because it gives a lot of the back story as to where Dredd came from, but the way in which it was done had too many holes in it.
Dredd shouldn't have been sent to prison in the first place, he should have been chasing Rico round MegaCity 1.

Some years after cutting his teeth on regular Dredd stories, Ennis returned to 2000AD in the summer of 2001 to provide a new, twelve-issue storyline, and to show how he has matured as a writer.
They're converging on Mega-City One to finish this Dredd off...led by Judge Cal, the seven others are nasty pieces of work, ranging from the infamous War Marshal Kazan, Fink Angel and Rico Dredd to the rather less well-known Murd the Oppressor.
Get out of it he does, of course, although after the menace is built-up effectively in the first ten-and-a-half episodes, that last dozen pages are a real disappointment...it's almost a case that "with one bound he is free", the menaces are defeated so easily.

Dredd's Mega-City One (formerly New York) is a glitzy replication.
Dredd is framed for murder and, when his chosen defense counselor, Judge Hershey (Diane Lane), can't contradict some DNA evidence (no, this isn't the O.J. Simpson trial), he is sent to prison.
Dredd is pure Stallone and, irrespective of all the sci-fi trappings, that statement is probably all that's needed to define exactly what kind of movie this is.
