Topic: Ride height

[No title]   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
It is also known to reduce the ride height at high speed where it can be assumed that the road is smooth and better aerodynamics are important, and also to provide an access level for the vehicle where the ride height is lower than is suitable for normal driving.
This ride height is only maintained while the vehicle is stationary, or travelling at less than a predetermined low speed, and is designed to enable easy access to and exit from high off-road vehicles, for example.
The increase in ride height from the first level is preferably triggered by the vehicle reaching a pre-determined speed which is preferably between about 10 and 20 kph, such as 16kph for example.

Riding On Air - Or Not:Servicing Air Suspensions, Larry Carley, Brake & Front End, March 2004
When the suspension is lower than its normal ride height, the system module energizes a relay to turn on a compressor and pump air into the air springs, shocks or struts through solenoid valves.
Maintaining a consistent ride height is important because ride height affects wheel alignment, tire wear, handling, traction and the aiming of the headlights.
If a change in ride height isn't accomplished within three minutes after the need is indicated, the system warning lamp comes on and stays on as long as the ignition remains on.

New Jersey ride owners successfully lobbied the state for a rule allowing ride owners to disregard the minimum height requirement as long as the undersized rider is accompanied by a rider who meets the height limit.
Ride owners in New Jersey may be willing to take the risk of boarding undersized children because they have lawyers who can prove in court, after a child is injured, that parents assume liability in cases where they choose to ignore the posted safety requirements.
According to the state of California's report on the second Wipeout accident, the theme park tested the ride's ability to restrain small children during negative-g portions of the ride by "utilizing a water jug and a large stuffed bear in an attempt to simulate passengers".

Facts about topic: (Torsion beam suspension)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
The main advantages of torsion beam suspension are durability, easy ride height adjustability, and a smooth ride.
It usually consists of trailing arms connecting to a twistable beam that runs from one side of the car to the other.
This design's advantages are mainly space and cost, and does not offer the performance or ride height adjustability of torsion bar suspension.
