The needs of the Congress Centre and what anchor tenant might be signed on will make the difference in the total square feet of the expansion, although Rideau Centre director of marketing and leasing Cindy Van Buskirk estimates between 150,000 and 250,000 square feet.
Corporate Research Group president Brian Card believes the Rideau Centre is successful because it is a huge tourist draw, there is a large employment population in the area, ample parking is available (not the norm for a downtown centre) and it is the kind of market segment that attracts a lot of retailers.

It is alleged that the Government does not have a clear appreciation of the residents of Rideau and the life challenges they face and that the residents of Rideau will suffer irreparable harm should this facility be closed and the residents moved into community residential facilities.
