  Nepean, Ontario - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nepean was a suburban municipality adjacent to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada until it was amalgamated with the 10 other municipalities that formed the Regional Municipality of Ottawa Carleton in 2001 to become the new city of Ottawa.
Nepean Township, originally known as Township D, was established in 1792 and originally included what is now the central area of Ottawa west of the Rideau River.
The geographic boundaries of Nepean changed considerably over this time; the original town hall of the township of Nepean was located in Westboro, which was annexed in 1949 by the city of Ottawa.

 Glenn Brooks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Glenn Brooks is an Ottawa City Councilor representing the rural ward that was the old Rideau Township.
A long-time local politician he was first elected to the Rideau Township council in 1977.
Brooks was a strong opponent of the amalgamation of Rideau Township into the city of Ottawa, but once the new city was created he chose to run for the role of Rideau's representative to the city.

Within the Rideau region however life continued to be nomadic, consisting of seasonal rounds of the region for hunting, fishing and gathering of plant foods.
Since the Rideau had no traditional permanent native habitation, reserves were never established in this region (many of the new reserves were established along the north shore of Lake Ontario.) The days of the traditional "hunter-gatherer" were drawing to a close.
Ontario, a word which is believed to be derived from the Iroquois word "Skanadario", which means "beautiful water" was first settled by Europeans in the 1600s.

 Rideau Canal Waterway - Walking Tour of Manotick
Built of locally quarried limestone and one of the best examples of 19th century grist mills in Canada, this mill is noted for the quality of its stone work and interior detailing.
It was purchased by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority from Harry Watson in 1972.
In 1981 the building was acquired and the exterior meticulously restored by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, it is now a popular lunch and tearoom, operated by the Senior Citizens.

The former Township of Rideau refused the Site Plan Control application and determined that it was necessary to develop appropriate planning policies and regulations regarding the establishment of Adult Entertainment Parlours within the Township.
As is noted in the consultant report, the Legal Department has advised that it is not appropriate to ban a land-use on a Citywide basis as that may result in the by-law being challenged as unreasonable.
Three sessions were held in Rideau Ward in June of this year, in Manotick, North Gower and Kars to provide an opportunity for public discussion concerning this interim control study.
