Stratigraphic ridge: In places such as the Ridge-and-valley Appalachians, very long, very even, very straight ridges are formed due to the fact that they're the uneroded remaining edges of the more resistant strata that were folded laterally.
Volcanic caldera ridges: Large volcanoes often leave collapsed central calderas that are bordered by circular ridges.

Sometimes, particularly in discussions of atmospheric waves embedded in the westerlies, a ridge line is considered to be a line drawn through all points at which the anticyclonically curved isobars or contour lines are tangent to a latitude circle.
The most common use of this term is to distinguish it from the closed circulation of a high (or anticyclone); but a ridge may include a high (and an upper-air ridge may be associated with a surface high) and a high may have one or more distinct ridges radiating from its center.
The opposite of a ridge is a trough.

Ridge lift (or 'slope lift') is created when a prevailing wind strikes a geologic obstacle that is large and steep enough to deflect the wind upward.
If the wind is strong enough and the ridge high enough, it provides enough force for gliders (Aircraft supported only by the dynamic action of air against its surfaces) to stay airborne for long durations or travel great distances.
Long mountain ranges such as those found in the United States, New Zealand, and Chile have been used by glider pilots to fly in excess of a thousand kilometers in a single flight.

The easterly currents of the tropical and equatorial region between the subtropical ridges of the two hemispheres or between the subtropical or subequatorial ridge of the summer hemisphere and the buffer system will be referred to as the tropical easterlies.
The summer hemisphere ridge has a normal poleward movement with the march of the sun; however, in the winter hemisphere the ridge also moves poleward in opposition to the march of the sun.
The subtropical easterlies, between the subtropical ridge and the TUTT, average 5 to 10 kt and the subtropical westerlies, between the TUTT and the subequatorial ridge, average less than 10 kt.

(1986) have advanced the hypothesis that the location of the mid tropospheric ridge along 75° E is a measure of the influence exerted by the troughs in the Westerlies on the upper tropospheric thermal conditions over North and Central India.
The latitudinal position of the 500 mb ridge along 75° E in April has been extensively used by most of the long range forecasters to predict the Summer Monsoon rainfall since it has emerged as one of the important predictors (Hasternath and Greischar, 1993).

Park Ridge High School was a very small school; I only graduated with 62 other seniors.
