Damascus (Arabic: دمشق translit: Dimas͟hq Also commonly: الشام ash-Shām) is the largest city and capital of Syria.
Founded approximately 2500 BC, it is thought to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, before Al Fayyum, and Gaziantep.
Although this is often shortened to Dimashq by many, the citizens of Damascus, and of Syria and some other Arab neighbors, colloquially call the city ash-Shām.

1987: Status of Damascus city changed from governorate to province; Dimashq province brought under the jurisdiction of Damascus and called RifDimashq rural area.
The project aims at providing and securing electrical energy to industrial cities being built in Adra, Hasiah and Sheikh Najaar, in the provinces of RifDimashq, Hims, and Halab respectively, by installing three transformer stations rated 230/66/20 kV and another 3 transformer stations rated 66/20 kV.
The project includes all civil and other preparation work, as well as the supply of all equipment necessary for T.S. installation, in addition to institutional support and staff training.
The Syrian government will finance the balance of project costs in addition to any future cost increases.
