By LARRY P. BLISSFIELD - Voters in Lenawee County's Riga Township will cast ballots today on a zoning referendum that will decide whether an $80 million ethanol plant is to be built in their township.
"Riga is definitely out," as a location for the proposed plant if the land is restored to its former agricultural zoning, said Sharon Knisel, a spokeswoman for Great Lakes Ethanol LLC of Adrian.
Last year, Riga Township board members agreed to re-zone a 136-acre site near the intersection of Silberhorn and Cemetery roads, just south of the village of Blissfield and west of U.S. 223, from agricultural to heavy industrial to allow the plant to be built.
