Riley Pathfinder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pathfinder replaced the RMF as Riley's top-line automobile.
All Pathfinders featured the front independent suspension developed from the RMF, but the sophisticated Riley rear suspension was replaced by a conventional leaf spring type in the last few examples.
The Pathfinder was replaced by the short-lived Wolseley 6/90-derived Riley Two-Point-Six in 1958.

 Riley Pathfinder - Motorbase
Launched in 1953 as a replacement to the successful RM series, the Pathfinder can be seen as the last proper Riley saloon.
Although it shared its graceful body design with the Wolseley 6/90 which appeared in 1954 the Pathfinder retained its Riley twin cam, four cylinder engine and lowered stance which helped both looks and handling.
The spacious interior was well appointed in the usual Riley fashion and could seat upto six people, thanks to its right hand, floor mounted gear change.

Although the brakes on the RM series Riley were archaic, the front suspension was not.
The 1946 Riley RM adopted torsion bars up front, with the adjuster at the rear (beneath the driver's feet) with the forward end mounted in the lower A arm.
Riley produced, albeit under the firm name of Autovia Ltd. an eight cylinder V 8, with the same head layout as described in their earlier 21/2 litre, this time of 2.8 litres capacity and of a creditable, and very supple, 90 BHP output, as early as 1936.

Riley Pathfinder - GB Classic Cars
The Riley Pathfinder was introduced in 1953 as a replacement for the RMB / RMF series of cars.
The Pathfinder was the last Riley to use the big four cylinder twin cam unit that had been designed back in1926.
Not surprisingly the pathfinder was used widely by British police constabularies around the country as their preferred vehicle along with the Wolseley 6/90.

 Riley - GB Classic Cars
In 1938 Riley became part of the Nuffield group of companies, and after the end of the Second World War Riley moved from Coventry to Abingdon, close to the MG car works.
The Pathfinder was replaced by the Two-Point-Six saloon in 1957 and this was the first Riley to use a BMC engine - the 6 cylinder “C Series” unit.
The Riley variants were mostly fitted with twin carburettor engines, walnut fascia’s and other refinements and were therefore higher up the “BMC hierarchy” of badge engineering.

The last in the successful Riley RM series appeared in 1952 and was known as the RMF 2.5 litre saloon.
The RMF used the well proven 2443cc twin-cam four which would live on in the Pathfinder saloons until 1957, this powerful 100bhp engine could still achieve 20mpg when driven carefully.
RMF saloons used the later hypoid axle and hydraulic brakes that could also be found on the 1.5 litre RME cars although final gearing remained high unlike the smaller cars.

The Pathfinder was designed as a credible replacement for the strong-selling, in Riley terms, RMB/F series.
At the same time, Nuffield (the project was planned before the BMC merger) was trying to rationalize, by designing one car, and selling it as both a Riley and Wolsley (The 6/90).
One problem was that the Riley and Wolsley models both had different engines, gearboxes and trim.

The other cars, however, had to be geared and tuned in their standard form with an eye on acceleration and/or fuel economy, and needed some changes to secure the desired end.
The Riley Pathfinder was almost suitable as it stood, but some margin was required, particularly in view of that intended load of journalists.
Driving the Pathfinder, Bob Porter, a car agent, and well-known trials driver, was accompanied by his wife, Mollie, his sister-in-law, Mrs Sue Porter, and Mr Ray Jeffs, a London insurance broker.

Introduced in 1957 as a replacement for the Pathfinder, the Riley 2.6 differed in many ways from the earlier car despite looking similar.
The body of the 2.6 was much higher than the old, low-slung Pathfinder which always had a sleek, sports saloon feel to its styling.
The 2.6 found few fans amongst traditional Riley customers and as a result only 2,000 had been built by the time production ended in 1959.

Riley Two-Point-Six - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Two-Point-Six replaced the Riley Pathfinder as Riley's top-line automobile.
While its predecessor was still a Riley design, the Two-Point-Six was simply a Wolseley 6/90 with a Riley badge and grille and garish two-tone colour schemes.
This was actually less than the 2.5 L Riley "Big Four" straight-4 engine it replaced.
