	Two Lamps - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		In the middle of Arda, where the light of the lamps mingled, laid the Great Lake with the island Almaren, where the Valar dwelt.
		According to the earlier writings of Tolkien, there was also the Sea of Ringil to the south, perhaps associated with the roots of Ormal.
		According to older writings not used in the published The Silmarillion, the Valar wanted peace with Melkor, and decided to ask his assistance: they wished to fix the lamps upon Arda's ground.

		The Valar, who wanted peace with Melkor, decided to ask his assistance: they wished to fix the lamps upon Arda's ground.
		Melkor bided his time and allowed the Valar to do as they wished until the fateful day where the Lamps' light and heat melted the ice and crashed upon Arda, flooding it with water and darkness.

		Remember that Ringil did wound Melkor seven times, which is far more impressive imo than narsil.
		In that sense I believe only those swords made in valinor with help of Aule (ringil) were best than those made by the elves who had learnt from the Dwarves (angrist, as Eol learnt from the dwarves, and Glamdring, as probably as made of the skills of the Noldo and Maeglin, son of Eol together)...
		Even if we might not know of the value of a sword held by a major being because their power could be confounded, that doesn't mean that they were less powerful.
