Ringu and Ringu 2 was directed by Hideo Nakata and Ringu 0: Baasudei was directed by Norio Tsuruta.
Writers that contributed to the Ringu-movies are Takahashi Hiroshi (Ringu-, Ringu2- and Ringu 0-screenplays), Iida Jouji (Rasen screenplay) and Kim Dong-bin (The Ring Virus screenplay).
So far I have seen Ringu, Ringu 2, Ringu 0: Baasudei (I saw them back in spring/summer 2001), The Ring Virus and I can truly say that they are masterpieces and landmarks in the history of horror-filmmaking.

Considering how Ringu 2 took the original movie a step further, I'd have to say that the idea of shifting back into the past actually works for the series.
Ringu 0 presents more than a few elements that help flesh out Sadako as a person long before she becomes the Oriental bogeyman (or bogeywoman).
Ringu 0 proves to have the strongest presentation of the series, especially with giving Sadako such a wonderful bit of character before her downward spiral.

DVD review of Ringu - DVDTOWN.com
With its seemingly simple yet far-fetched premise, "Ringu" exploded from obscurity in a big way when it first premiered in Japan back in 1998 and has gone on to attain cult status with horror fans all over the world.
"Ringu" starts off with the mysterious death of four teenagers who are rumored to have watched a supposedly cursed videotape that according to urban legend, will kill those who watch it within a week.
One particularly powerful scene from "Ringu" that stands out from the rest is when Asakawa´s son, Yoichi (Otaka Rikiya) meets her ex-husband, Ryuji Takayama (Hiroyuki Sanada) under a drenching monsoon storm.

SARUDAMA.COM: Japanese Movie Reviews: Ringu 0 Baasudei - Ring 0 Birthday (Tsuruta Norio 2000)   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Ringu 0, directed by Tsuruta Norio (who also directed Kakashi a year later) is the last in a line of (Japanese) movies based on Nakata Hideo's Ringu.
In Ringu, you may remember, the plot revolved around discovering and uncovering the mysterious Sadako who lived 30 years in the past from the characters' perspective.
But I have to say that I was not prepared (nor willing) to humanize and empathize the Sadako of Ringu into a giddy teen nervously belting out theatrical lines on the stage while winking at her new boyfriend in the sound booth.

The DVD Journal | Quick Reviews: Ringu Anthology of Terror
Ringu – The one that started it all — the highest-grossing film in Japanese history, Hideo Nakata's 1998 horror film was adapted from the novel The Ring by Koji Suzuki and then remade as The Ring for American audiences.
Ringu: Rasen – With the phenomenal success of Ringu, this sequel was made as quickly as possible and shoved into theaters the same year.
Ringu 0 is a surprisingly effective psychological drama, but those looking for a truly scary follow-on to Ringu will once again be disappointed — as will those hoping that this third sequel will answer all of their questions in a tidy little package — it doesn't.

UGO.com DVD - Ringu Anthology DVD Review - The Ring Two Super-Feature
Ringu will feel real familiar to the legion of fans of the original, as the plot and many of the scares are the same.
The film follows an investigation into the death of Takayama at the end of Ringu that leads to four teens and, of course, a little cursed videotape, but it adds a scientific level to the Sadako myth (her DNA is actually mixing with her victims).
Ringu 2 won't give you the shock to the system that the original will but just so you can be up on your horror movie trivia, you really should see it to contrast and compare with the original.

PIXELSURGEON | Reviews | Movies | The Ring
Nakata's movie was a remake of a 1995 TV show Ringu: Kanzen-ban directed by Chisui Takigawa about a journalist who investigates the sudden deaths of four young healthy people and traces it back to a cabin and a videotape.
Following the success of Nakata's Ringu there followed a 1999 movie remake, the Korean and Japanese produced Ring Virus directed by Kim Dong-bin, a well-received sequel directed by Nakata, Ringu 2, and a prequel Ringu 0 directed by Tsuruta Norio which explored the childhood of Ringu protagonist Sadako.
Some of these have been culled from Ringu such as a well and a moving mirror, whilst most are new additions in the same vein: mysterious chairs, ladders against walls, dead horses on a beach, someone falling off a cliff and so on.

Before there was The Ring, there was Ringu, the Japanese horror/thriller that was remade virtually verbatim from this original.
A skeptic TV station employee discovers the tape after her cousin watches it and dies, watches it herself, and soon draws her ex-husband and nephew into the quest to find out more about the tape's origins and, hopefully, avoid death for all three of them.
