The State of Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology sampled 5 private wells in November 1993 in a resampling followup to the fall CSU extension study.

Green River - Flows in Colorado are controlled by discharges from the Flaming Gorge Dam, and the river is clear.
On the Colorado side of the reservoir, pike are biting on perch-colored crankbaits and chartreuse spinners off the points.

Summitville Mine lies in the San Juan Mountain Range of the Rocky Mountains, approximately 18 miles southwest of Del Norte in Rio Grande County, Colorado [Figure 1].

Miners and stockmen flocked to the San Luis Valley after the territorial governor convinced the government to sign a treaty with the Utes who subsequently ceded their ancestral land in the valley to the United States.
In 1881, a young woman and her mother opened a small store next to a water tank along the Denver and Rio Grande railroad line between Alamosa and Del Norte.

To assure a strong frontier as more and more migrants from the states entered the "Mexican Mountains" to trap beaver or to prospect for legendary treasure caches or mines, the Mexican government authorized land grants in what had once been forbidden territory--the San Luis Valley.
The first Mexican land grand, named the Guadalupe Grant (aka the Conejos Grant for the Conejos River), was given in 1833 to 50 families who went to the confluence of the San Antonio and Conejos rivers to establish the plaza of San Francisco.
