  Río Negro Province - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The economy of the province is concentrated in the agriculture at the fertile valleys of the Río Negro River, specially at the Alto Valle but also at the Valle Medio.
The province produces almost 70% of the apples and pears of the country, most it for exportation with 38% of it as fresh fruit and 40% as juice concentrate, through the port of San Antonio Oeste.
The province is divided in 13 departments (Spanish departamentos).

On Tuesday, December 17, 2002 the Rio Negro Province Legislature passed a law that grants same sex couples the same rights enjoyed at state levels by de-facto unions, except the possibility to marry and adopt children.
Rio Negro has very advanced legislation that is unique to Argentina in areas such as mental health (patients are not hospitalized but cared for by the communities in which they live) and reproductive health (public hospitals provide free contraception and sterilization procedures upon request, both for women and men).
Unlike the case of Rio Negro, opposition by the local Catholic Church was fierce in Buenos Aires.

Earliest recognition of coal-bearing units in Argentina was by Augustin del Castillo in 1887 (Borrello, 1956) near the present-day coal mining camp of Rio Turbio in the southern part of Santa Cruz province.
Rio Turbio is an underground mine with five coal-bearing units (bottom to top): manto inferior, manto superior, manto B, manto A, and manto Dorotea.
The Rio Turbio coal deposits are considered to be an extension of the Magallanes Basin to the west in Chile.

Horizons containing Venericor are also recorded in the southwestern Patagonia (Río Turbio and Man Aike Formations, Santa Cruz Province), and to the west in the Vaca Mahuída Formation (Río Negro Province).
