		A mishap almost prevented the album's release &8212; Hendrix lost the master tape of side 1 of the LP after he left it in a taxi.
		The Gypsy Suns and Rainbows were short-lived, and Hendrix formed a New trio, the Band of Gypsys (sic), comprising Billy Cox, an old army buddy, on bass and Buddy Miles on drums, for four memorable concerts on New Year's Eve 1969-70.
		Although the film Rainbow Bridge is generally regarded as a being of minor interest, what was billed as a soundtrack to the film (it is not the soundtrack) includes several superb tracks intended for Hendrix's fourth studio album, First Rays Of The New Rising Sun, the never-completed follow-up to Electric Ladyland.

		The band originally intended to record the album at a casino in Montreux, but the night before recording was to begin the casino hosted a Frank Zappa concert (with members of Deep Purple in attendance) at which an audience member fired a flare gun into the facility's bamboo roof.
		To the astonishment and chagrin of many Rainbow fans, Dio was fired after the tour for this album, but he managed to land on his feet by replacing Ozzy Osbourne as the lead singer in Black Sabbath in 1980.
		In 1987, the line-up recorded and toured in support of the eclectic and experimental album, 'The House of Blue Light.' A live album, 'Nobody's Perfect' (1988), was culled from US shows on this tour, while in the UK a new version of "Hush" was released to mark the band's twenty year anniversary.

		I knew that it was hailed by many critics as being a definitive album of heavy metal, but the problem was that I never saw it being sold anywhere.
		According to The Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal, Rainbow’s* Rising ranks #9 on the ten most essential metal albums.
		I was going to buy it anyway, because seeing stuff by Rainbow nowadays is like getting an Ozzy fan that knows more than three songs of his.

	New Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock PH-PL
		The album highlights include the superimposed pianos and guitars that spell out the stern mediaeval melody of "Ouverture XV"; the gorgeous symphonic cavalcade of "Sotto i ponti"; and the hide-and-seek between spinet, hyperkinetic piano and a hazy female voice in "Arlecchinata", a song that swings effortlessly from romantic rhapsodising to Tom and Jerry chases.
		This is an album that will quite probably strike the listener as tuneful but shallow on first listen, but further exposure will reveal it to be just as intricate and experimental as the big-name Italian progressive bands in their prime, just far less bombastic and flashy in its execution.
		The drummer on this album is Antoine Paganotti, current vocalist and sometime drummer for the current incarnation of Magma (and also the son of former Magma bassist Bernard Paganotti), and his drum work is very fluid and loose...
