		Risk is an album by the metal band Megadeth released in 1999.
		This album is the first Megadeth recording with drummer Jimmy DeGrasso.
		The title stems from Mustaine's decision to take a risk with the musical direction of this album (a decision he later regretted making), at the suggestion of former bandmate Lars Ulrich, who himself (as well as the other members of Metallica) had taken a risk with the Metallica albums of the late 1990s.

	Megadeth
		In 1990 Megadeth released their fourth album, entitled Rust in Peace, regarded by many speed-metal[?]-fans as one of the most technically fulfilled and exciting speed-metal albums of all time.
		This album had more pop influences than the previous ones, but its sound was still unmistakably Megadeth's.
		On April 3, 2002, Mustaine announced in a press release that he was leaving the band, officially due to an injury that caused nerve damage to his left arm.

		Risk is a big risk, and although the end product nowhere near matches their earlier work, it is by no means bad.
		Risk is not exactly a guitar player's fantasy come true, but there are a few riffs that warrant attention, like the Eastern-sounding "Insomnia" and the gloomy crush of "The Doctor Is Calling." The latter tune is one of the album's highlights with its beautifully crafted chorus section.
		Risk is a solid effort by this veteran metal band, although I do miss some of the weightier material from the group's earlier stuff.

		The album was going to be recorded live at a concert in Argentina, but due to the September 11, 2001 attacks, the band decided to record it live in the United States.
		The album was a near total rejection of much of Megadeth's 'softer material' (such as the album Risk, which had no songs featured) and was seen as a return to their heavier, more 'metal' days of the 1980s and the very early and very late 1990s.

		While this album doesn't stack up well against their more famous releases ("Peace Sells...But Who's Buying" and "Rust in Peace" in particular), it does have its own merits and is worth checking out for any fan of their music for at least history's sake.
		Whereas the album before it and even more so the one after it are filled to the brim with talent and quality, this one ends up being comparatively average.

		A few mellower and darker moments pop up towards the end of the album in a set of a few songs that are as diverse as they are original.
		When I bought this album, I was hoping that Megadeth would return to the sound of the Countdown To Extinction and Youthanasia albums.
		The lyrics and vocals are quite inferior to the brilliant Youthanasia album, and while the band proves that they can still wail with the best of them, this album simply does not offer the diversity of some of the previous albums.

		The album’s lyrics, on the whole, are a message of hope and determination, but are as generic and replaceable as the vocals of Lamont Heibert, the band’s leader.
		The most disappointing moment on the album comes halfway through on “February.” What could have been a beautiful and touching moment of memorial of Lamont’s lost brother and mother becomes a lack luster moment of a longing for memories more than the people.
