ALLEN County is located in the southeastern part of the State, in the second tier of counties west of the Missouri River, and about fifty miles north of Indian Territory.
The largest stream is the Neosho River, which enters the northern part of the county from the west, flows southeast, then nearly south through Geneva, Iola, Humboldt, and Cottage Grove townships.
The trail, in Allen County, extended nearly along the line now followed by the K. It was not long until the business along the route was sufficient to put on a two-horse hack, after which passengers and light freight were carried.

The Snohomish River, which flows from the confluence of the Skykomish and Snoqualmie rivers near Monroe to the Puget Sound at Everett, has not been meeting state water quality standards.
However, in order for the river to meet water quality standards, Ecology must also develop a cleanup plan for the tributaries of the Snohomish River — Quilceda, Allen, Woods and French creeks, the Marshlands and Pilchuck River.
The study concluded that these streams and rivers failed to meet state water quality standards for fecal coliform bacteria and dissolved oxygen.

Scientists, who called their findings "shocking," said they were working to determine the exact cause of the problem, and investigating whether there were health risks associated with eating the deformed fish found in a 30-mile (48 kms) section of the river.
Of 372 trout sampled, 34 percent that had been exposed to Willamette River water for two weeks had deformities compared with nine percent of the fish raised in the laboratory, the study found.
The river, which winds through the state's most populated areas, is also planned as a source of drinking water for the town of Wilsonville in 2002.

In a recent trip during the floods, the River was across car park at Plankey Mill (up to tarmac of road), this is very much not the case.
At this level the bottom stopper of the weir is closed with about a 15+ foot (2 boat lengths) toe back, however this is unlikely to be a problem as you probably won't make it through the stopper immediately up stream.
OTHER NOTES: The West Allen and East Allen also go in high water and you can also paddle down beyond Plankey Mill (but the river eases) for several km until the river joins the South Tyne.

After 500m on another full river width wire fence spans the river, the fence has been damaged, some routes are possible but mixed with fallen trees again; in high water this would be tricky!!!
