		The River Alyn is the main River of the Colomendy Area.
		Where the Alyn is flowing over the limestone, it becomes an intermittent stream, in the summer months much of the water, flows down into the swallow holes, that have opened up in the river bed.
		The Alyn originally emptied into the Irish Sea, but at the end of the last glaciation, its course was diverted by sea ice that blocked its way to the sea.

	Columbia River Ecology
		Duxbury et al concluded that their hypothesis was correct; single, periodic samples of the water at the mouth of the Columbia River were not representative of time or space, because levels of salinity, silicate content, and nitrate and phosphate levels can vary greatly in one place over a short period of time.
		While it is interesting to note that the Columbia River's level of discharge affects how long it takes for the river water and the ocean water to mix, this phenomenon tells us very little about the river itself.
		Thus, since the river has been converted from a spring and summer high flow river to a winter high flow river by dams, I would suppose that the mixing sequence found in this experiment is directly the reverse of what would have been found before the dams were built.

	Ogof Hesp Alyn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Ogof Hesp Alyn (Welsh for: Dry Alyn Cave) was discovered by North Wales Caving Club in 1973 in the Alyn Gorge near Cilcain, Flintshire, North Wales.
		Ogof Hesp Alyn provides a valuable opportunity to study a cave system developed almost entirely by a phreatic processes which remains largely unmodified by vadose streams.
		These two caves with Ogof Nadolig form the caves part of the Alyn Valley Woods and Alyn Gorge Caves SSSI.

		The upstream section from where the river is met continues in grand proportions for a while, but eventually the mud banks close in, the roof lowers and one is forced to crawl in water for a few metres in two places.
		Personal observation when the River Alyn was in spate confirmed the circular shaft in the fault section of the cave to be full to the top with water and all traces of bootmarks to have been recently eradicated from the entrance series.
		The level of water in the river is probably not indicative of the local subterranean water table.

		Aside from the river the park offers a nature reserve, trees, fields and lots of scrubland.

		i have fished the River Dee for a number of years and it has been stocked with fish 9ins to over 2lb and also some brood fish to 5lb+, it has not helped the river as every year the early months are hard with only odd fish showing.
		Brown trout and sea trout are the same species and the rain fed rivers that produce runs of sea trout do so because the available food for the native fish is not enough to keep the population properly and healthily fed, so they smolt and go to sea.
		A river with the flow and water characteristics of the Alyn is very difficult to manage.

		An interesting feature is that the older doorways at the rear which have not been altered are very low (less than six feet) and built for people of the day who were shorter.
		The farm was one of a number of farms owned by the Lords of the manor, the Trevors of Alyn (the Alyn is the name of the local river) who themselves lived in Trevalyn Hall which still stands in Rossett village.
		It now comprises of a river meadow farm rising up from the River Dee and not the River Alyn.

		As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with the Alyn its a hell of a lot better now than it was 30 years ago when I first used to fish it.
		It is my first season on the Alyn and I have had a great time, catching all sizes of fish from parr to 15ins trout, I have worked with the committee on working parties and have been impressed by the desire to make the Alyn a good fishery and by how much work they achieve.
		A river is not improved by standing on the bank and looking at it but by hard work and help from other bodies who can give advice and support, such as the Wild Trout Sciety who think the river is in good nick.

		Back to the early Dee Locks descent - this was because in the 1960's a low bridge deck was put across the back of the lower (tidal) lock chamber, this chamber is long, so boats have to be the other side of the bridge as the tide comes in and the level goes up.
		At the confluence with the River Alyn, the retreating water marked out the shoal below and at the confluence, with some violent water, just keep well over to the left hand (east) bank.

		The earliest mention of a church at Gresford is in Domesday Book A.D.1086, which records that there was a church and a priest at "Gretford in Extan hundred".
		This spelling has given rise to a theory that the name Gresford does not derive, as is generally believed, from the Welsh Croesffordd (crossroads) but from the ford on the river Alyn on the road from Holt to Caergwrle, and that the original name is either Gretford or Gritford.
		The only trace of this chapel is to be found in the name Pontycapel for the lane which led to it.

		The 'leete', an artificial watercourse, drew water from the River Alyn near the mill and carried it three miles to Rhydymwyn, at a drastically shallower gradient than the river itself.
		Hence, it starts at the same altitude as the river but here, ~1km downstream, the river is dozens of metres lower, off to the left.
		Secondly, it provided a reliable water supply to Rhydymwyn even in summer, when the river itself vanished into swallowholes in the limestone riverbed.
