Popular victory is a splendid advertisement for the St Leger - Telegraph
Of course, the proud-necked Bollin Eric may not, perhaps, in strict mathematical merit, match up to the great St Leger winners of the past such as Nijinsky or Reference Point.
After winning the last two of his four races as a two-year-old, Bollin Eric came back to be third at Newmarket in April, second both at York and Royal Ascot, an unlucky third at Haydock and then a closing third in York's Voltigeur Stakes.
Bollin Eric may lift his knee but the white flag never goes near his masthead.

  APEM | project
DESCRIPTION: The River Bollin is potentially the most important part of the Mersey catchment, for the re-establishment of migratory salmonids (salmon and sea trout) in addition to other migratory species such as eels and lampreys (sea, river and brook).
Prior to this project little was known about habitat quality within the Bollin with respect to the salmon, or indeed other migratory species, although it was acknowledged that there were many formidable obstacles to upstream migration.
River widths were also measured in the field whenever a 100m grid line (horizontal or vertical) was crossed and compared to bank widths as defined in the geo-referenced digitised maps.

Rivers are important, dynamic, components of the landscape.
The availability of suitable modelling tools to predict river adjustments to change in driving variables is, therefore, a pre-requisite for the rational design of countermeasures, and promotion of sustainable river management.
In meandering rivers, channel curvature produces secondary currents and a transverse sloping channel bed, with increasing depth towards the outer bank, so that the outer bank is often undermined and eroded.

As the River ran through the entire site, the Sea Sabs claimed that they should be left to float up and down it, unimpeded, giving whatever support they felt able to those ensconced in tree houses and tunnels.
Trudging up the river in their garish costumes, dragging the bright yellow dinghies which now contained ‘humanitarian aid’, and followed on the banks by about twenty locals, came the Sea Sabs, in a scene reminiscent of an Ealing comedy, but on water, a face off began.

The technique is also used to assess changes in the characteristics of a site over a number of years and determine the effects of events such as changes in flow regime or drought.
