Cockermouth is a town in Cumbria, England, and is so named because it is at the confluence of the River Cocker as it flows into the River Derwent.
It is situated on the North west fringe of the English Lake District.
The largest hotel is the Georgian fronted Trout which still has a faded photo on its walls of Bing Crosby who used the hotel as a base for his fishing in the town's rivers.

The Derwent is a river in the Lake District of the county of Cumbria in the north of England.
The river rises at Styhead Tarn underneath Scafell Pike and flows in a northerly direction through the valley of Borrowdale, before continuing through Derwent Water, giving the lake its name.
Another tributary is the River Cocker, which joins the Derwent at Cockermouth, through which the Derwent flows after exiting Bassenthwaite Lake on its now westerly course.

Cockermouth is known as the birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth and also the town of Christian Fletcher who led the "Mutiny on the Bounty".
The name Cockermouth was derived from the River Cocker, which originates in the nearby Lake District National Park and flows into town, where it joins the River Derwent.

Parking is on the east side of the river here and costs £3.50 for four hours (Oct ‘05) unless you are a national trust member.
The carpark for the takeout is found by driving northwards across the Derwent using the one road bridge in the centre of Cockermouth.
Despite being rather flat, the river still moves quite rapidly and winds its way 6km through farmland and the back gardens of some rather nice houses.

After starting out as an unsuccessful pop singer (working under the name Vance Arnold), Joe Cocker found his niche singing rock and soul in the pubs of England with his superb backing group, the Grease Band.
He hit number one in the U.K. in November 1968 with his version of the Beatles' "A Little Help From My Friends." His career really took off after he sang that song at the Woodstock festival in August 1969.
A second British hit came with a version of Leon Russell's "Delta Lady" in the fall of 1969 (by then, Russell was Cocker's musical director) and both of his albums, With a Little Help From My Friends (April 1969) and Joe Cocker!
