After the river dried up last time, the locals formed a Darent valley association to ensure it was not pumped dry again (yes it was pumped dry by Thames water).
The EA restocked the river with all sorts of fish including a lot of trout and perch, probably where the red perch came from.
It seems that carpers slip them into the Darent to try and reduce the population of 'nuisance fish' from the various pits along the lenghth of the river.
