I fish the lower reaches of the river Don in Aberdeenshire and have struggled to find an effective technique for fishing weighted nymphs where wading/access is difficult.
Could the panel tell me what trout streams or rivers are nearest to the West Midlands and do I need a different NRA license than the course and non-migratory trout one.
River fishing is a mobile pursuit and so a landing net that can be carried easily will be better that a big stillwater net that is stuck into the bank.

The River Don is well known for being a good salmon river, it also has a very good reputation for sea trout, but the reason why most anglers visit the Don is to fish for the wild brown trout.
The upper reaches of the river can produce superb brown trout sport in April and May, after which they become more tricky and most local anglers will usually concentrate their efforts on the middle reaches in June and July.
The salmon season on the River Don opens on February 11th and closes on October 31st.

The 'Pigmented Salmon Syndrome' is a noninfectious haemolytic anaemia with associated clinical jaundice of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), caused by exposure to a combination of chemical pollutants.
The disease has been restriced to the migrating adult Atlantic salmon population of the River Don, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK, where it reached epidemic proportions in the early 1980s.
The Pigmented Salmon Syndrome has not recurred in wild River Don salmon since 1989, and our research suggests that this is due to directed improvements in the water quality of the River Don.
