	Dory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		A dory is a small, shallow-draft boat of approximately 5 to 7 m (15 to 22 ft) in length.
		Nested stacks of dories were frequently carried on the decks of fishing schooners out to the fishing grounds, where they were then deployed to lay longlines or tend nets.
		More glamorously, dories were once used to travel dangerous whitewater rivers, where their superior maneuverability made them preferable over other watercraft available at the time.

		Now without already owning a dory it would be a hard decision as the Jersey Skiff being wider, and a foot longer would hold 5 easily.
		I also looked at river dories, and maybe making a kit boat, (here.) Wooden river boats look pretty, but I've got a lot of local lakes and while a river boat is better in a river, they are terrible out on a lake or out in the sound.
		On the other hand the greater draft of a New England Dory means I'm going to have to stay at the lower reaches of the rivers least I run up on too many rocks.

		If the decision is to use a 15 inch engine on the Clarence River Dory, then the next consideration is the horspower.
		The designer indicated 25 hp as the maximum for the craft, and with a wealth of experience running 10 hp and 18 hp engines on my own 18 foot flat-bottom boat, with a short trial run with a 25 as well, I whole-heartily agree that 25 should be the maximum.

		Renee river guides rafts and dories on the Colorado through the Grand Canyon and Cataract Canyon as well as the Salmon river in Idaho (middle fork, main, lower, plus Hell's canyon on the Snake river).
		Dories are descendants of the original Portuguese fishing dory and have many influences.
		The first fiberglass dories were pretty heavy, but you can get them to be light if you know the tricks of the trade, which I don't know a lot of detail on-- If you have the time, I would suggest swinging by OARS-DORIES in Lewiston, on 1127 Airway Ave.
