The Feale rises in the mountain district of north Cork and flows westerly through the rural towns of Abbeyfeale and Listowel to enter the sea south of Ballybunion.
The main river and its tributaries combine to form in excess of 160km (100 miles) of fishing water, which is among the outstanding salmon and sea trout fisheries in Ireland.
The river gets equally good runs of salmon and sea trout and in a good season it is estimated to produce at least 1,500 salmon and grilse, and well over 2,000 sea trout to rod and line.

She was bathing in the river one day when she saw a strange man approaching her along the riverbank.
About one and a half miles outside the village, are the ruins of Port Castle, which was built by the Geraldines to command the crossing of the river Feale.

He lived in the rarefied atmosphere of five All-Ireland medals, he traveled the world as a sporting ambassador in the green and gold, yet a soft spoken man often preferred to have a quite drink with his family and friends along the still waters of the River Feale.
Finally, I just want to say that Tim reached out beyond the world of sport and he touched the hearts and minds of those who’s fortune it was to have known him and although his flame may have flickered for now his is a light that will never be extinguished, thank you”.
