	Tiber River : the Tiber river as the oldest road of Rome
		The River Tiber (Italian Tevere), the third-longest river in Italy at 406 km (252 miles) after the Po and the Adige: it flows through Rome in its course from Mount Fumaiolo to the Tyrrhenian sea, which it reaches in two branches that cross the suburbs of Ostia -Isola Sacra (south) and Fiumicino (north).
		Rivers were a very important natural resource in ancient Rome: they irrigated the surroundings farmlands, provided fresh water and were used for trade and transport.
		Popularly called flavus, "the blonde river", the Tiber is heavily charged with sediment but does not form a proportionable Delta, owing to a strong north-flowing sea current close to the shore, to the steep shelving of the coast, and to slow tectonic subsidence.

	James Island, Gambia River
		In 1661 the Fort was seized by the Royal Adventures of England, and the Island was renamed James Island after the Duke of York.This set in motion a trend which saw Island change hands between the various European powers, including the French and the Dutch, as their fortunes waxed and waned in Europe.
		Between 1702 and 1778 when the Island was finally captured and bombarded by the French, the Fort passed into various hands including a band of Welsh pirates, who in 1719 captured the Island and dismantled the fortifications.
		The Island was finally abandoned around 1783 when it had outlived its usefulness because British merchants had turned their attention to elsewhere in The Gambia and appeals for funds to repair the fort were ignored by the British government.

		Areas of soils on Rogers Island are believed to have been contaminated as a result of the deposition of dredge spoils and river sediments resulting from both human activities and natural occurrences.
		In 1998, it came to the attention of the State of New York that a portion of Rogers Island was undergoing development for a planned resort, including boat docks, launches and an interpretive center keyed to the historic significance of the locale.

	Gold River
		The place only has a handful of hotels and a couple of shops – but the ride over on Hwy 28 is superb, and there's the chance to explore the sublime coastline by boat, the main reason for the settlement's increasing number of visitors.
		It takes you much further north up the coast, returning to Gold River at 4 or 5pm on Friday afternoon: accommodation is included, as is breakfast – though you make it yourself from food supplied – and you can buy Thursday's evening meal on board or onshore at Kyuquot.
		Note that there are also two beautiful roads north from Gold River, both rough, but worth the jolts for the scenery.
