River Narog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tolkien, the River Narog was the chief river of West Beleriand, the largest tributary of River Sirion.
Narog's tributaries were the River Ginglith in the north and the River Ringwil in the Taur-en-Faroth.
Into its western bank, just south of where Ringwil rushed into Narog, was carved the city of Nargothrond, stronghold of Finrod Felagund.

Nargothrond - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tolkien, Nargothrond ("The great underground fortress on the river Narog") is the stronghold built by Finrod Felagund, delved into the banks of the river Narog in Beleriand, and the lands to the north (the Talath Dirnen or Guarded Plain) ruled by the city.
Inspired by Menegroth in Doriath, and seeking a hidden place from which to be safe from the forces of Morgoth, Finrod established it in the early years of the First Age, in the Caverns of Narog beneath the forested hills of Taur-en-Faroth on the western bank of Narog.
The original denizens of this huge cave system had been the Noegyth Nibin, the so-called 'Petty-dwarves', but whether they were driven out of their homes by Finrod's people, or earlier by the nearby Sindar, is not known.

The river continued south, receiving the River Narog at the Nan-Tathren (Valley of Willows) before emptying into the Bay of Balar at the Mouths of Sirion.

The valley of the swift-running River Narog cut southwards through West Beleriand from the river's sources beneath Ered Wethrin in the north.
For the first half of the river's journey, the Vale passed through the high moorlands west of Doriath, through lands that were ruled from Nargothrond, and past the field of Tumhalad where Nargothrond's last battle was fought.
As the river plunged into the rocky lands beneath Taur-en-Faroth, its valley became much steeper and narrower, until the river emerged to flow across the lowlands of West Beleriand and ran on to meet Sirion at Nan-tathren.

Its northern and lesser part, the Forest of Neldoreth, was bounded east and south by the dark river Esgalduin, which bent westward in the midst of the land; and between Aros and Esgalduin lay the denser and greater woods of Region.
