River Ogwen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The River Ogwen (Afon Ogwen in Welsh) is a river in north Wales draining from some of the greatest peaks in Snowdonia before discharging to the sea on the eastern side of Bangor.
The River Ogwen emerging at the western end of Llyn Ogwen immediately descends cataracts and waterfalls know as Ogwen falls before continuing in a north, north westerly direction down the glaciated Nant Ffrancon valley.
As the river continues northwards, it passes close to the great waste tips of slate produced by the Penrhyn slate quarry and then past a caravan site where the remains of a long abandoned mill and mill pond still exist.

It *cannot* be properly inspected from the either the river (canoe type inspection as one drifts into pending doom over the fall), or the left hand river bank.
It's a possiblity this was created to prevent paddlers shooting river left of the island, since the route is blocked by a number of fallen trees.

As it's name suggests the river begins it's journey from Llyn Ogwen and the Ogwen Falls at the head of Nant Ffrancon, in the Ogwen Valley.
Along it's journey the river runs alongside the villages of Bethesda, Tregarth, Tal-y-Bont and Llandygai before arriving at the Menai Straits near Bangor.
