The River Dee is a 90 mile (140 km) long river, which rises in the Cairngorms, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and flows to the North Sea.
The area directly west of Aberdeen which runs parallel with the Dee is known as Royal Deeside due to the British monarchs' appreciation of the beauty of the area - Balmoral Castle is situated between Braemar and Ballater along the Dee.
Further down the river, it passes through an artificial channel in Aberdeen, constructed in 1872 to improve the city's harbour.

The canoes are being taken by an Inuit komatik to an river flowing into The Bay they would ascend to get eventually to the Quoich River which flows to Chesterfield Inlet.
We continued down this unnamed river for 150 miles in all until we met up with the Hayes, which we joined and followed to the confluence with another unnamed river, about 200 miles east of the Hayes' confluence with the Back River near Chantrey Inlet.
We had to decide whether to continue down river at a more leisurely pace, or head up river again for 150 miles and cross overland to the headwaters of the Quoich River.

The river hits bedrock and drops around 30 feet in the first part, flattens out for a while, then gradually picks up speed and drops over some shallow ledges into a deep pool.

I took 12 from the river to the point I thought I would finish (mayhalf past 10?) but over a longer period, and on average slightly smaller.
Having worked down that stretch of river, several times, I could not manage to coax any fish from this bit, but the view was magnificent.
On a different day, this from the bottom of the same river where it empties into a lochan that doesn't appear to have a name other than the Upper Garry river on an OS map.
