According to the treaty of November 17, 1807, negotiated with the Ottawa, Chippewa, Wyandot, and Potawatomi, a tract of land comprising roughly the southeast quarter of the lower peninsula of Michigan and a small section of Ohio north of the Maumee River was ceded to the United States.
The Maumee River, in the area covered by the land cession, was therefore an important center of the Ottawa.
The continuity of Potawatomi occupation on this river is seen in the presence of Seginsavin's village (also written Seginsairn, Seginservin and Seginsiwin) which is mentioned in various sources from 1807 to 1827 and in the village of Tonguish.

During the War of 1812, General William Henry Harrison's Northwest Army divided to march by three routes through Ohio and Indiana in hopes of reuniting on the Maumee River (northern Ohio) to attack British forces stationed in Detroit.

 Cooperation in the Name of Preservation
A.D. 500-750) of the Western Basin Tradition.  Wood charcoal was donated to the University of Toledo for radiocarbon dating.  A date of A.D. 60 was obtained from the sample.
     Subsequent to the original excavation of the burial features, the WLEARP and members of the River Raisin Chapter initiated a shovel test survey of the area in which the burial features were discovered.  Although investigations continue, no additional features have been discovered.
