The River Rea is a small river that flows through South Shropshire, England and passes just to the east of the town of Cleobury Mortimer, before entering the River Teme at Newnham Bridge in Worcestershire.
The name of the river derives from a root found in many Indo-European languages and means "to run" or "to flow".
An alternative name for the river is the Neen and there are various settlements along its course of that name or variations of it, such as Neen Sollars and Nene Savage.

Rainbow trout in the river have escaped from the trout farm.
The River Wenning is a wild brown trout and salmon river and the rainbow trout are, of course, causing problems with the brown trout fry and parr.
The ACA currently acts for several clubs whose waters on the River Don have been devastated due to the discharge of huge amounts of raw sewage from the storm tanks of a sewage works in July 2006.

 River Rea Heritage Trail Recives Lottery Boost - Birmingham City Guide news
Plans for a seven-mile heritage trail along the River Rea in Birmingham have received a boost after the project was awarded £24,000 in lottery money.
The River Rea - another picturesque reminder of Birmingham's sprawling river and canal network.
Special information panels will be erected along the route of the trail to mark places of historic interest such as Gannow Green Moat in Frankley, the site of an old moated house.

 Local Heritage Initiative - River Rea Heritage Trail
The group want to establish the River Rea Heritage Trail which is a walking route from the source of the River Rea (Waseley, Worcestershire) to Cannon Hill Park (Edgbaston, Birmingham).
As well as the interpretation boards the groups are hoping to provide the information in audio format in different languages to cater for Birmingham's ethnically diverse population.
Working with the council and other voluntary groups along the Rea they are going to provide walks, talks, conservation events, children's play school activities and schools projects they have ambitious plans for the launch through extensive publicity and a family orientated event, including a rubber duck race!

Rising on the Waseley Hils the river heads across the city towards its confluence with the River Tame near Spaghetti Junction (The Gravelly Hill interchange) a journey of roughly 14 miles.
The journey taken by the Rea as it meanders through Birmingham, reflects the history of the communities that sprang up throughout the centuries along its banks.
Both the archaeological and ecological landscape of the river has been changed by all of these communities from the Bronze Age to the present day.

The project is based on the River Tame in the West Midlands - specifically the urban area of the river catchment that includes Birmingham and a large part of the Black Country.
The River Tame is a typical example of an urban river - polluted, heavily modified by culverting, straightening, re-routing and with concrete banks and few natural features.
The final project conference this May, on Urban river management and the Water Framework Directive, is an opportunity to review the progress made during this three-year LIFE-Environment project and critically assess the project's outputs.

The guided walks were very successful and most visitors went home with a trail leaflet in their pocket.

The channels were constructed from precast concrete revetment blocks with rock armour inlet and outlet protection.
