  Spen Valley Motorcycle Club
Founded in 1923 as the Heckmonwike and District MCC, the club changed its name a short time later to encompass the whole of the Spen Valley, and the rather grand sounding "Spen Valley Motorcycle and Light Car Club" emerged.
Few records remain from this era and even fewer riders.It is known that Spen Valley had its share of local heroes.
The forties and fifties were, of course, speedways golden years and a number of well known riders were Spen Valley members, Eddie Rigg being amongst them.

The lords of the manor (the Nevilles of Liversedge Hall) found their wealth diminishing and a pact was made by the heads of the two families for a marriage.

More than 2.5 million trees will be planted along the River Murray between Morgan and Renmark as part of the South Australian Government's Budget commitment to the waterway.
It is one of a number of River Murray projects to share in a $241 million Budget package for the next four years.
Minister for the River Murray Karlene Maywald says the funding will also go towards the state's target of returning 35 gigalitres to the river under the Living Murray Initiative.

Dewsbury Magistrates Court heard the liquid latex leaked into the River Spen from a drain at the firm's site in Heckmondwike after a spillage in June.
The court heard that during an interview with Environment Agency officers company representatives admitted they had noticed a liquid getting into the river from a drain near their site.
They had tried to stop the leak by bunging drains and had called a specialist contractor to clear some of the liquid.
