The Torrens River currently flows from a small town in the Adelaide Hills called Mount Pleasant, meanders through Gumeracha, passes the City of Adelaide and enters the ocean at West Beach.
The river itself is approximately 85 kilometres long and has three of Adelaide’s eight reservoirs, Milbrook Reservoir, Hope Valley Reservoir and Kangaroo Creek Reservoir in it’s path.
The Torrens was Adelaides’ main sewer, which was partly to blame for outbreaks of cholera, typhus and other life threatening water borne diseases.
