	River Ver
		The upper section of the River Ver has always been a winterbourne, flowing only at times of high rainfall usually in the winter but from Flamstead south, until recent years, it was a permanent chalk stream.
		The Ver Valley Society exists to protect and promote all aspects of the River Ver and its valley.
		We have divided the 24km length of the river into 12 stretches, from its sometime source at Kensworth Lynch, north of Markyate, to the confluence with the Colne near Bricket Wood.

		Apart from their normal day-to-day occupations the people of the River Ver valley have over the years had many trades and specialities.
		The cress was originally grown directly in the river bed, but later special cress beds were built using the water from nearby springs and artesian wells sunk to tap the groundwater.
		When the cress beds around Redbournbury fell into disuse in common with all the others along the river the area reverted to water meadows but the indentations formed by the former cress beds can still be seen along the valley.

	Ver Valley walk : Groundwork Hertfordshire
		As can be seen, this section of the Ver Valley Walk and the supporting structure — known as ‘revetments’ — had begun to fall into the river as a result of water erosion to the river banks.

		RiVer - my name, changed legally some years ago, blows the mind of lots of computer systems cos it has no surname and no Mr/Ms/etc.
		Incidentally, this is fully accepted in English law (and, I think, US law), but not by the people creating computer systems that apply the law.
		In any case, the better spelling is River~~ (the twiddly bits representing how the name looks in British Sign Language - at the time I chose the name I had a couple of Deaf friends and was quite into BSL.
