		The River Weaver is a watercourse running a curving route anti-clockwise across west Cheshire, England.
		Between 1807 and 1810, a short section of canal, the Weston Canal, was constructed in parallel to, and fed by, the Weaver, leading from Frodsham to Weston Point Docks.
		Rowing is popular on the River Weaver, with competitive clubs based in Runcorn, Northwich, and Acton Bridge (The Grange School).

		The Anderton Boat Lift provides a link between two navigable waterways: the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal, and is situated near the village of Anderton, near Northwich, in north Cheshire, north-west England.
		As the river is approximately 50ft (16m) lower than the canal, the boat lift provided an alternative to a prolonged series of locks: as the river and canal run very close together, there was little space for the locks.
		Hydraulic rams are used to raise the tanks (which acted as counter-balances to each other) and any vessels in them from river-level to the level of the canal.

		The river weaver is mostly a slow flowing river a bit like a large canal with very narrow marginal shelfs for the most part, i am afraid i have no pictures of the place but next time out on there i will take one and post it here for you.
		The shelves on the Weaver are very narrow, and the rest of the width of the river offers little in the way of interest for the carp.
		When the river has water on it there is no other place other than the margins (on both sides) which make any sense for the carp to be in.

		The River Weaver was by then capable of taking boats upto 100 tons and in 1777,when the Trent and Mersey Canal was built, both water-ways were used for carrying salt and the coal needed to produce it.
		The Weaver Navigation Trustees used a steep slope at Anderton to transfer cargo between the river and the canal which was just over 50 feet (19.3 metres) above it, but this was all done by hand and was back breaking work.
		A basin was then excavated in the river, and pathways, inclined planes and chutes were installed to assist the men working the cargoes.

	Anderton Boat Lift
		The Trustees of the River Weaver Navigation were duly opposed to the Trent and Mersey Canal, as their waterway had previously benefited from the local salt trade and the potteries' traffic, now seemingly in danger of being lost.
		In an attempt to encourage shippers to use the Weaver Navigation for the import of raw materials from the Mersey, two cranes were constructed in 1796 with the sole intention of lifting goods upwards, from the river basin to the canal.
		A large gantry was constructed from the river basin to the top of the valley, and a small canal basin was created to allow boats a 'waiting area'.
